DNS records describe different layers.

A and AAAA records point hostnames toward IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. NS records identify authoritative nameservers. MX records direct incoming email. CAA can limit which certificate authorities may issue certificates for a domain. The absence of one record is not automatically an error; the domain's intended use determines whether it is needed.

SPF, DKIM and DMARC answer different email questions.

SPF describes permitted sending infrastructure. DKIM publishes a public key under a selector chosen by the mail provider. DMARC defines alignment and handling policy. A public record check can expose obvious gaps, but it cannot guarantee inbox placement or confirm every provider-specific configuration.

RDAP is the structured successor to WHOIS.

The registration panel reads publicly returned registrar and event data. Privacy rules and registry policies can limit fields, and an expiration date should be confirmed inside the registrar account before making a renewal decision.

This is a lookup, not a security audit.

The tool does not scan ports, test website performance, send email, inspect private account settings or claim that a provider is secure. Results come from Google Public DNS, IANA's RDAP bootstrap file and the matching registry's public response at the time of the request.

Does SmarterBuyLab store the domain I check?

No. The form calls Google Public DNS, IANA and the matching registry RDAP endpoint directly from the browser. SmarterBuyLab does not receive the submitted domain, and calculator inputs are not included in its analytics events.

Does a missing MX record mean the domain is broken?

No. A domain that does not receive email may intentionally have no MX record. Interpret the result against the domain's actual job.

Can this tool confirm that email will be delivered?

No. It can show public MX, SPF, DMARC and optional DKIM records, but delivery also depends on message authentication alignment, sending infrastructure, reputation, content and recipient systems.

Does a DNSSEC result prove that a website is secure?

No. DNSSEC protects specific DNS integrity paths. It does not replace HTTPS, application security, account protection, backups or operational controls.
